“I stayed with Val for 10 days and thoroughly enjoyed my time. The homestead is a uniquely beautiful character home and Val is a unique and beautiful hostess too… The single room has a comfortable bed and a cosy heater and electric blanket (which was very welcome as the nights were cold). I liked...”

“Val is a lovely host, so welcoming and generous. The homestead is beautiful, and is comfortable and relaxing. On a cold winter's night, the warmth and cosiness were very welcome indeed. I would definitely stay there again.”

“Val's place is honestly one of the greatest places I've had the pleasure to stay at. Val went above and beyond her requirements as a host: she picked me up at the bus station, dropped me off some places when it was really inconvenient for me to get there, she gave me tips and ideas for what to do...”

Cobden Homestead - Hamilton
About this place
Cobden Homestead is unique. It is an architecturally designed Homestead, built from native rimu near the end of the Edwardian Era in 1914. If it feels like stepping back to over a 100 years ago, it’s because our Host Val has lovingly preserved the homestead so you can feel like you are back at Grandma or Aunty’s house: a touch of authentic nostalgia, delivered with care and attention to warmth and genuine hospitality. There are four guest rooms at Cobdon. If you can handle the stairs, there’s The Heritage room (double + and ensuite) and The Library (single room). Or downstairs is the lovely Peachgrove room for singles. For overflow guests, who don’t mind a sofa bed – there’s The Traveller’s Room, artfully decorated with quirky artifacts from around the world. The location is also superb - set on a whole acre, Cobdon Homestead is close to town offering convenient Hamilton accommodation close to Ruakura Innovation Park, Waikato University and Gardens. An organic property with 70 various fruit trees and vegetable gardens surround the outside seating area providing abundant produce for your vegetarian hosts culinary endeavours. The locality is handy to Hamilton City, Sunday farmers market, Waikato University, Waikato Hospital, the famous Hamilton Botanical Gardens. It is only 10 minute walk to the nearest picturesque bank of the Waikato River. There are a couple of old bikes that live in the shed that guests are welcome to use. It is just 3 minutes off State Highway 1 running through Hamilton from Auckland to South Waikato. Your host Val offers meals by arrangement (including vegetarian) - please enquire.
